Grok connector
FinzData for Grok
Add FinzData to Grok and ask for real market data in any chat: prices for 16,000+ US stocks including delisted names, 139 futures markets with every contract since 2007, daily dealer gamma (GEX) for single stocks, ETFs and the major indexes, 18,000+ macro series with every vintage, COT, 13F and election spending data. Grok calls FinzData's MCP server directly, so answers come from the data, not from web snippets, and you never need to write code.
Add FinzData to Grok in one minute
- Open grok.com/connectors and click New Connector, then Custom.
- Name it FinzData and enter the server URL:
https://api.finzdata.com/mcp - Sign in when prompted. FinzData uses standard OAuth, so you approve access with your FinzData account; no key to paste. No account yet? Create a free one in the same step.
- In a chat, turn the FinzData connector on and ask your question.
On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds the connector once and members can then turn it on.
What to ask
- "Give me MNQ 1-minute bars for March 2024 as a CSV."
- "Show SPY's dealer gamma, call wall and put wall for the last 30 sessions."
- "Backtest a 12-month momentum strategy on US stocks since 2005, delisted names included."
- "What did the first-published CPI print say in June 2022, before revisions?"
- "How are speculators positioned in crude oil futures by the latest COT report?"
- "Plot the /ES roll calendar and back-adjusted continuous series since 2015."
Grok API (xAI) and Grok Build
Developers can give Grok the same tools through the xAI API's remote MCP support:
from xai_sdk import Client
from xai_sdk.chat import user
client = Client(api_key="YOUR_XAI_KEY")
chat = client.chat.create(
model="grok-4.3",
tools=[{
"type": "mcp",
"server_url": "https://api.finzdata.com/mcp",
"server_label": "finzdata",
"server_description": "Point-in-time US stocks, futures, GEX, macro, COT and backtests",
"authorization": "YOUR_FINZDATA_API_KEY",
}],
)
chat.append(user("Get NQ daily bars for the last 20 sessions"))
print(chat.sample().content)In the Grok Build terminal: grok mcp add --transport http finzdata https://api.finzdata.com/mcp (it opens the FinzData sign-in on first use).
What the connector can do
| Tool area | Examples |
|---|---|
| Prices | 1, 5, 15 and 30-minute, hourly and daily bars for US stocks and ETFs, delisted included; futures with every contract since 2007; crypto |
| Options | Daily GEX, call and put walls, gamma flip and open interest for single stocks, ETFs and the major indexes |
| Fundamentals and positioning | SEC fundamentals as filed, 13F holdings, CFTC COT since 1986 |
| Macro and liquidity | 18,000+ series with every vintage, Fed net liquidity, money supply |
| Research | Server-side backtests, survivorship audits, the verified strategy board |
| Election data | FEC political spending by party, race and state |
Every answer is point-in-time: pass an as-of date and you get only what was public that day, so research done in Grok holds up in a backtest.

Frequently asked questions
Does Grok support MCP connectors?
Yes. Grok lets you add a custom connector by entering a remote MCP server URL at grok.com/connectors, and the xAI API accepts remote MCP servers as tools. For FinzData the URL is https://api.finzdata.com/mcp.
Do I need to know Python?
No. Once the connector is on, ask Grok in plain English, for example "Give me MNQ 1-minute bars for 2025 as a CSV".
Do I need an API key?
Not in the Grok app: the connector signs in with OAuth using your FinzData account. For the xAI API, pass your FinzData API key as the authorization value.
Is the data point-in-time?
Yes. Macro series, fundamentals and GEX return only what was known on the as-of date you ask for, which avoids look-ahead bias.
What does it cost?
The free account includes 1,000 data calls and 5 backtests a day. Full history is a one-time purchase: $19 per ticker, $29 GEX for one ticker, $49 per futures market, $195 for 5 years of the whole US market.
