What 1-minute bars are used for

Execution and slippage studies

Model fills against the bar you would actually have traded in, and measure how far the price moved while an order worked.

Opening-range and first-hour strategies

The first 30 regular-session minutes carry much of the day's volume; 1-minute bars show how the range forms.

Event reactions

See how a stock moved in the minutes after an earnings release, an FOMC statement or a CPI print, including pre-market.

Building your own bar sizes

Resample 1-minute bars into 2, 3, 10 or 45-minute bars, or into volume and dollar bars, without asking for another dataset.

How the bars are built

Every intraday bar is built from FinzData's 1-minute record. Bars are aligned to the clock and stamped at the start of the interval in US Eastern time. Open is the first minute's open, close the last minute's close, high and low the extremes, volume the sum. Minutes with no trades are left out, never forward-filled. Sessions: pre-market 4:00 to 9:30, regular 9:30 to 4:00, after-hours 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Prices are stored as traded; ask for split- and dividend-adjusted prices with adjust="all".

Plans

1-minute, 5-minute, 15-minute and 30-minute bars come with the 25-year ($575), 30-year ($670) and Institutional ($975) history bundles, or for a single stock from $19 in the shop. Tick-level trades come with Institutional.

Frequently asked questions

How many 1-minute bars are there per day?

390 in the regular session (9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) and up to 960 with pre-market and after-hours. Minutes with no trades are left out, so a quiet stock has fewer rows. AAPL had 805 on October 19, 2026.

How far back does 1-minute data go?

To January 3, 2000 for 1,070 stocks, 2010 for 2,393, and 2020 for 4,320. Each stock starts when our vendor's minute record for it begins.

Is 1-minute data enough instead of tick data?

For strategies that act on signals a minute or slower, yes. Market making and order-flow research need every trade; see tick data.

Are 1-minute bars adjusted for splits and dividends?

They are stored as traded. Pass adjust="all" to get split- and dividend-adjusted prices on read.
